Our organization was established in September 2017 to honor the 98th birthday of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, a renowned freedom fighter throughout Africa and the diaspora. We officially registered on September 20th, one day before his birthday celebration on September 21st which is always a public holiday on the Ghanaian calendar, allowing us to draw inspiration from him as our guiding ancestor and Ghana’s first national hero in our pursuit of environmental freedom and rights.
Drawing from Nkrumah’s legacy, we work to empower local communities and young people to stand against environmental destruction, protect wildlife, and combat climate change. Our persistence since 2017 stems from the strong foundational force that guides us through numerous challenges as we strive to reach Ghana’s communities and youth.
We have successfully organized youth forums at the University of Ghana, senior high schools, and the Youth Opportunity Transformation Africa Center (YOTA), building a dedicated youth following. These efforts have positioned us to mobilize various youth communities across Ghana, amplifying the voices of Ghanaian young people in the fight against climate change by awakening their inherent spirit of freedom and justice.
Our continued advocacy demonstrates the enduring power of connecting environmental activism with Ghana’s proud tradition of liberation, inspiring a new generation to carry forward the struggle for both national and environmental freedom.
